I had to wrestle with a lot of personal issues the past couple of days, and one of its side-effects was the inability to fall asleep. I'd toss and turn at night, unbidden images and thoughts invading my mind, when all I really wanted to do was to rest. I think it was after the third hour lying awake that I searched for my little vial of lavender essential oil and dabbed it on the sides of my forehead. I covered myself with my blanket and inhaled deeply, and before long - and thankfully - I awoke the next day.
I think the power of essential oils seem too good to be true until it's proven right. This other time, I had to do a sound recording at my internship but was so nervous that it showed in my voice. My editor passed me his vial of Hope Gillerman True Relaxation Stress Remedy to sniff, and instantly I felt calmer (seriously, my voice was ridiculously zen and perky after I inhaled). The one pictured above is from Young Living, which offers a variety of oils on its website. If you've ever felt frustrated and helpless about your inability to fall asleep, give it a try.
PS: Messy Wands is now officially messywands.com! If you're fond of the old blogspot URL, do not worry - it will automatically redirect you.
I'm obsessed with lavender oil. I don't care whether it's psychological or not -- it really helps relax me at bedtime. I swear by an essential oil burner with a few drops of lavender oil plus liberal application of a Neal's Yard sleep blend oil rollerball. I hope things calm down for you soon. Also, love the new blog design :).
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rosy! It seems it helps a lot of people relax, so it would seem it's not merely psychological :)
DeleteHurray for the new domain :) And I love lavender...it's such a dreamy scent, I agree.
ReplyDeleteThanks Larie!
DeleteI like lavender everything too :)
Congrats on going dot com!
ReplyDeleteLavender oil really helps me too! I don't normally have sleeping problems, but when I do this works!
Thanks, Sunny!
DeleteSorry you've been having sleep problems. :( *hugs and offers lavender flowers*
ReplyDelete*nibbles a little* :(
Deletei don't really use essential oils but i've been meaning to start for a while. i have a humidifier lying around somewhere which helps to disperse whatever oil you drop into the water so i might start using it
ReplyDeleteOh that's good! I've been lemming the one from Muji but I can't bear the thought of dropping over $60 for a humidifier thingamajig yet.
DeleteI'll have to get a vial of that. I had major sleeping issues for years but no one ever suggested lavender oil. Hope this will be a better week - sending good thoughts your way! x
ReplyDeleteyou definitely should try it out!
Deleteoh, you went .com - congrats! I really like your new layout and I love this post. I use lavender as well (body oils, etc) and it is calming. I am very scent-sensitive and a good scent can make wonders. I haven't found anything that helps my migraine though (that would be to easy I guess, lol) / Claire
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
DeleteI'm sorry you get migraines. I know that can be horrible. Hope you find something soon!
Essential oils are great, but Young Living is a MLM (pyramid scheme), there are other better and cheaper places to get the same type of products.
ReplyDeletehuh! Never knew. But I guess that's how my mom got it in Malaysia.
DeleteYay for going dot com!! Congratulations :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the smell of lavender but I don't have trouble sleeping. In fact, I have trouble waking up. Hahahah!!
I love using lavender oil too. Actually I like using Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I dab a few drops onto my pillowcase. That way it smells nice and lavendery and it's good for the skin :) It works really well too--all my girlfriends used to ask me to dab some on their pillows :P
ReplyDeletehope everything is ok, xiao. hate it when thoughts keep me up at night.
