It's going to be interesting navigating this hairstyle. I've never had short-short hair. I don't know how to use wax. I am no longer able to "hide behind my hair," so I wonder if I have to change my makeup as well. One thing I know for sure, I am definitely getting a leather jacket as soon as I find a good one. And hats, I'll need a lot of hats this winter.
So far, I've had mixed responses. I don't doubt most people like my long hair better but I felt it was time for a drastic change. I wanted to try a pixie once in my life and it was the perfect time to do it. Any later, I would have chickened out.
That said, I still have some reviews scheduled with pictures taken before the cut, so do expect a little back and forth for a while. I suppose it makes better sense to post those reviews before debuting the cut, but you know, I'm just really excited my head is so light and I'm not used to not being able to run my fingers through my hair, and stuff.
Also, CHEEKBONES.
For those interested, I had it done at Hisako Beauty Salon located at 47th St between 3rd/Lexington Ave. My stylist was Yusuke.
Way to go, Xiao! I must admit I went a bit wide-eyed when I saw the pic pop up on my Bloglovin, but I understand why you felt the impulse to change things up!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you can do with your new style!
So cute! I chopped off all my hair quite a number of years ago and loved it. I also got mixed reviews but I really enjoyed the super short cut. It's back to long now, but I agree when the mood strikes you, you have to do it before you lose your nerve. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWow, just wow. One thing is sure: that took a lot of cojones. It certainly doesn´t look bad. :)
ReplyDeleteLOve it! i have short short hair and i love it.
ReplyDeleteCourageous & cool change!!
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling too well....doing the habitual running of fingers through one's hair & suddenly the hands are in free fall. Hair gone!
I think you should go shorter though. I'd like to see it more funky.
You have such great bone structure. Show it off!!
we tried! Apparently I had A LOT of hair (something I wasn't aware of till he was trying to hack all of it off and it wouldn't go away o.o) so it's hard.
DeleteIt took me three cuts till my once LONG hair & I were in a happy place together. I've never looked back since though.
DeleteI think a bit more off the sides would be good but I wouldn't mess with the top yet - nor with the color. Sure it takes some getting used to, but any woman can wear long hair. Your face needs to be seen!
I think it's nice! Long hair can get messy at times, and sometimes also really too long.
ReplyDeleteOh, another thing, the first picture totally look editorial!! Reminds me of those magazine interviews.
ReplyDeleteCheekbones!
ReplyDeleteI totally get it. I just felt the urge this weekend for a drastic change this weekend as well and went blonde. Well...it's still strawberry blonde but I'm getting close to my drastic change.
I think you look cute as a button. You could even go shorter on the sides and really rock the cheekbones. xo
LOVE IT , it look edgier!
ReplyDeleteOh I really like it! I've always wanted to try a pixie but I hide behind my hair a lot. Scurred D:
ReplyDeletexxkarima
OMG!! I love it! I would never have had the balls to do it but you look ADORABLE with a pixie haircut babe :D
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I love it!! You totally have the bone structure to pull this off! :) Absolutely stunning!
ReplyDeleteOoh I love it!
ReplyDeleteDo you have pierced ears? Because I love the short-hair big-earrings look.
Gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteits a good change! like the new cut =)
ReplyDeleteSo chic! I just spent a month in Milan and the best looking, most chic & stylish girls all had short hair. You are totally rocking this look, well done!
ReplyDeletenow to learn how to style it! /trepidation
DeleteOHMYGOD!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of sad about your hair because it was so shiny and long, but this cut is totally growing on me and I agree about the leather jacket. Loving the new edgy Xiao!
Wow, that takes some balls! I really admire the big change!
ReplyDeletehot.
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing! I cant wait to see you wearing a strong lip with it now :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. You must doubtless have read this already, but if not: http://www.paulwhkan.com/pq/shorthair.html
ReplyDeleteNo I haven't - Thanks for the link!
DeleteSimply. Stunning.
ReplyDeleteYup, perfect time to try drastic cut. I got mine in grad school, although, it was never supposed to be as short as it got. I was also fascinated with the pixie cut and had the most fun with my hair then. Enjoy your hair - eventually, though, you WILL want to grow it out and it will be a biatch with the all the awkward growing phases. Number one reason I haven't gone back to short. Growing out is a pain. Turn it into an accessory adventure with head scarves and head bands. It's the only fun part of growing it out.
ReplyDeleteI'm already planning that :P I have no idea how to style this hair, which makes me kind of scared. Yesterday, in a whim, I pulled it into a mohawk...
DeleteVery bold! I once chopped it all off, but that was in middle school when my face was rounder and I don't think I pulled it off at all! Lipsticks will really, really pop now.
ReplyDeleteMy jaw literally dropped!! LOVE IT
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for some crazy make-up looks. I think those cat-eyes from a few weeks back would look amazing with the new hair!
Ooh that's a good idea!
Deletelooks good! i cut my hair this way about two years ago and loved it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT! You look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCute! It suits you well!!!
ReplyDeleteYou look good in anything =P You have the face for a pixie cut, that's for sure! It's going to be so much easy to wash and work with now!
ReplyDeleteIt might be more difficult! With long hair I just dry and go. Now I actually need to know how to style /trepidation
DeleteTry using a wax! I've heard people say Jonathan Dirt is good! I also love the one that is a liquid wax from Pureology!
DeleteYou look amazing! I think the short haircut looks beautiful on you and it makes your cheekbones and eyes stand out. I would love to cut my hair like that unfortunately I have a square shaped face and thick curly hair. I agree with the poster that wrote a great cat eye would look good on you with your hair cut short. KatherynR, McRae, GA
ReplyDeleteEeeeee!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete*flail flail flail*
Yay! Makes me write my first comment after months of reading your blog! I think you look beautiful and almost want to take the pictures to the hairdresser to get my hair cut like that (I won't, though – was forced to wear short hair as a child and will never do it again). May I ask where your sweater's from? – Hanni
ReplyDeleteI believe it's from Club Monaco, but I purchased it last year :( they might have similar offerings this year though!
Delete(PS: I also was forced to wear short hair when I was a child and it definitely scarred me. But this time I'm having it on my own terms! Makes all the difference)
THANK YOU GUYS FOR THE SUPPORT!! I wouldn't (couldn't) have changed my mind if you guys hated it, but I'm really glad you do :)
ReplyDelete(Also, yes I believe shorter might be better and I'm meeting my stylist again to see if we can rectify that issue. Though at the rate I'm chopping off my hair I might go bald LOL)
Ask her to take more off the sides and back, leaving longer in the front, for punk rock flap look. Heck you could play with some bold hair color stripes in there or manic panic wash off.....Go all out...you will not likely be going back to this point, if you ever do, for a very long time. My one regret was not playiung with crazy color...no matter what the longest front hairs had to keep getting cut to allow sides and back to catch up.
DeleteMy first comment, too--I love, love, love your hair! It looked fabulous long, but the short cut really brings out your features. I love it's edginess, too. Oh, the makeup fun you'll have!
ReplyDeleteGOOD GOD WOMAN, this is magical! You could go even shorter, or, hell, bald. With DAT FACE.
ReplyDeleteGahahaha! At the rate I'm shaving more off I might as well BE bald
DeleteYou've got all the time in the world to have long hair. Hair grows back and it's great to experiment. It looks great on you!
ReplyDeletetrue that :)
DeleteI think the new cut is great! You look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteBesides, hair grows back--you can always grow it again (and it's probably super-easy to wear a wig for a bit if you want long hair for a few hours, or a day). But I think it looks great this way! I've always wondered myself if I should try a pixie!
the answer is YES! (not just because, but if you've always wondered, it's always good to find out and put that wondering to rest!)
DeleteYou look beautiful, as always. You have great cheek bones. Play up your eyes! Imagine the earrings you can wear. Definitely, get some cute hats to wear this winter. And a warm scarf for your neck. Should you get tired of this really cute hair cut, remember it's hair and it grows back.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I'll be having fun with my makeup for sure. I don't have ANY earrings so it's time to start stocking up on that!
DeleteLove it-I did that at your age, when Sliding Doors came out. If you haven't seen the movie, now is the time. Bumble & bumble Brilliantine will be a good friend for you-enjoy it! You look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteLooking into both of that now!
DeleteI LOVE this look on you. LOVE it. You have such a magnificent bone structure that you don't need to hide behind your hair at all :)
ReplyDelete♥ Jessica
Thanks, Jess <3 I don't *have* to, but if there's something there I'll sneak behind it!
DeleteYou look fantastic! I chopped all my hair off just before starting college (it was my dyke avenger look; don't ask) but everyone hated it but me, so I've since grown it out a bit. It's still shorter (above my shoulders) but every now and then I think about going back to a pixie cut. Enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI Love it. Bravo! As an Asian girl with short hair, I do find it hard to not resemble a boy. I have a boyish figure. So I try to add feminine pieces: a skirt, something pink, jewelry and of course heavier makeup. I've had varying lengths of hair over the years. From the length of ur hair now, to Natalie Portman's shaved style and truthfully I couldn't imagine having long hair now. My suggestion to u would be to go shorter on the sides and back. Keep some long wispy bangs. I love not having the same style as every other woman. I get a lot more attention- mostly good and compliments. And beig petite I feel like my hair no longer allows me to hide behind it. Mostly though don't listen to negativity. People will always think "women should have long hair." But it's 2012. I applaud u for being brave enough to share photos! One day I will hopefully be able to also. :)
ReplyDeleteBravo, you! the "women should have long hair" thing is such bollocks, I wouldn't listen to it even if anyone said it to me (but luckily no one did. And you guys are such ROCK STARS in terms of supporting this cut!). You should definitely share photos!
DeleteHello there hair twin! :D I didn't dare go as short as you did so I still have lots of hair on top of my head. Like you, I am a hair dodo - no knowledge on how to style/wax hair at all and I've learnt that really short hair does benefit from a little styling & wax. Also, I have found that with short hair, our face is out there, and good skin (or base) is quite essential for me. I'm glad I got my skin to a level I wanted before I went with my cut. Its probably what assured me I could do it :D Yes, I love your hair and I think you'd look amazing even if it was shorter - now put on some red red lips and rock the look! :D
ReplyDeleteYes. The skin has to be perfect now. I wonder if I have to wear foundation now, since before this I just did concealer...
DeleteI love your new haircut!
ReplyDeleteOh, how fun!! I went short myself in the middle of college. It didn't suit me, because my jaw was too wide and my hair too wavy, but I'm glad to have crossed it off my bucket list. The cut does look good on you, though like others I would suggest taking more off the sides. Also, styling is so easy: just run some pomade through your hair. Very interested to see what new makeup looks you're going to try!
ReplyDeleteOh I would LOVE pictures of that!
DeleteI think you look great and could get very creative with it, especially with quirky colors. For my face, never would I go so short, it doesn't fit my personality at all. :)
ReplyDeleteThe short cut is absolutely the opposite of my personality! But I'm glad I tried it anyway :)
Deleteitching to color hair now, but I'll take that slow
You look great – definitely have the features for it. And it was so brave to do it all at once. In college I went from waist-length hair to a very short bob, but in about 10 haircuts. And if/when you get tired of the pixie you can try out all sorts of in-between styles (bobs, blunt bangs, etc.) as well.
ReplyDeleteI think you're the most gorgeous "Asian boy" in town! You look amazing
ReplyDeleteWow. Props Xiao--a haircut like this takes some major 'tude. Must have been so liberating! :D I love the whispy ends--they are perfect!
ReplyDeletewhoa! you can totally rock it. cheekbones, red lips, hat. leather jacket. i can picture it now. you are so brave!
ReplyDeleteNice new hair style, really suit you.
ReplyDeleteI have grown my hair to about waist length then cut it to pixie style for about 5-6 times now. The last 3 times, the cut hair went to donation for "Cut for Cancer".
wow. what a change! I like it, it would be fun to see how you experiment with styling your hair, and I am really curious if you really do something different with makeup now. you have amazing features btw. I have quite long hair but I always wanted a pixi cut (well, I had one when I was a kid but that doesn't count, my mum told the hairdresser what to do, lol) / Claire
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your cut - it is very complimentary and you don't look like everyone else! Within the past year, I've allowed my hair color to go natural - gray! Congrats on your bold, brave and flattering step!
ReplyDeleteI just started reading your blog today (found b/c I was googling Burburry velvet lipsticks) and omg I love your short hair! You have great cheekbones, your old hair style was NOT doing them justice!
ReplyDeleteYOU LOOK AMAZING! I love short hair and on you it looks beautiful...I wish I had the guts!
ReplyDeletehugs, L.
Asians are so beuatiful in both genders! I liked the way you looked before and I like the way you look now!)
ReplyDeleteI love the new cut! You look likes frickin model!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog.
xo
I love the new cut! You look likes frickin model!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog.

I've been wanting to get my haircut short and this is exactly what I want! Are you able to get your stylist to write how they cut it? what technique etc etc?!
ReplyDeleteHi! i seldom comment online but I just wanted to say that you look amazing with short hair! There is nothing boyish about it; you look androgynous but in an appealing way. And as other commenters pointed out, short hair gives you more freedom to play with makeup and accessories!

ReplyDeletegood short hairstyle and it suiting you very well...
ReplyDeleteThis weekend, I impulsively decided to take a spontaneous road trip to the beach! No planning, just packed up and hit the road. It was exactly what I needed – a break from the usual routine and a chance to unwind. Sometimes, it's the unplanned moments that turn out to be the best. Definitely glad I went with the flow.
