In The Interim

Have you had one of those days (okay, week) where everything about your skin is wrong? I'm talking pimples, blackheads, random peeling... on top of all those and more, both, I repeat, both sides of my mouth has a cut and I don't even know how it happened. I can barely open my mouth to drink soup without it hurting. And my face should know better than to keep me from drinking soup.

I'm taking a temporary respite from photographing my face to save myself from the horror of having to filter pictures (I'm pretty sure everything will get canned) and you from having to see it. I have a few from last week ready, and with them reviews to catch up on. I promise the one on Shimmering Sands will be up soon! I forgot to pack it with me on my trip to London last week, and I didn't want to write about something without really testing it first.

Ah, London. I think I might have found where I belong in the world, and it saddens me that it is the place I just left. I miss it so irrationally - I almost teared up in an elevator yesterday from just wishing I was back there - but I can only wait to see if the winds of life will blow me that way again.

In lieu of a review (and to make myself feel better/worse depending on my optimism), I wanted to post some pictures from a photoshoot I participated in about two years ago. It was shot by Hope Kauffman and some of them appeared in Em Mag, an Emerson College student-run fashion/lifestyle publication.

I've been trying to recreate that winged liner in the last pic ever since the photoshoot and have not succeeded. I wish I knew who made us up that day. I need some tips!

And sneaking in one last morsel of update: there will be a giveaway soon on Messy Wands! (I think this is now a thing. Every time I come back from a foreign country I'll hold a giveaway, deal?) I brought back some yummy UK exclusives and I can't wait till my my face heals so I can show it to you. In the interim, I hope you enjoy these pictures. I'm a little embarrassed that my father shows them off to his friends, but I'm really happy to have had the opportunity to play model.

  3. *makes grabby hands for your pretty face*

Liner is easy for this one, silly girl! ;o) Just do the outline first - apex ~1 cm under the end of your brow, inner corner to the inner edge of your pupil, & outer connecting line slightly sloped from apex to outer corner of your eye. Tweak outline to perfection, then fill in & you're good to go!

(Do the e/s base first; it's always a pain to do it afterwards without making a mess of your liner. Also! Human face = not perfectly symmetrical. Liner shouldn't be either!)

I actually think that might be a symptom of a vitamin deficiency...

    Sorry I can't remember the specific vitamin...D or C.

  6. And WHY have you decided that modelling was not for you? O.o

    p.s.
I dunno if you saw my tweet last night, but I said that there are times when I see a woman's face and I can't help but stared and think, "I want to put makeup on that face."

Yeah... Your face does that to me...

  12. Girl you are gorgeous! As for the cut on the side of your mouth - I would get your hands on some Aquaphor - any drugstore will have it. I had cut myself in the same place Sunday night and two days of applying this religiously got rid of it!

  14. You look awesome and that eyeliner is killer! I wish I looked as good in it. I'm having bad skin days lately too. My diet's gotten a bit off the rails and I need to get back into my skin care regime that had my skin behaving up to now. Please, skin gods, fix our skin! :)

  15. Seconding what everyone has already said, you're a natural model! (And beautiful, but I think that's included in the natural model thing).

I especially love that fourth picture of you in the black coat. Hope your mouth cut heals soon, those are never fun :(

  17. May I not-so-subtly recommend the Clarisonic? I know its expensive, but what you're describing apart from the mouth cracks is pretty much what my skin used to be like 24/7. I have all kinds of problems with my immune and endocrine system, so horrible acne is a permanent/inevitable part of my life (that is, its not going away post-adolescence, because of my chronic health problems), but since using the Clarisonic twice a day, I've stopped peeling and bleeding and only ever get a small, painless pimple or two every now and again - which, for me, is a HUGE difference. I used to be, at best (even with a well-honed skin care routine and great diet), the kind of girl who had acne covering her entire cheek area in a graze-like mass of pimples - you couldn't even see my skin between them. I know its the Clarisonic making the difference because it all just cleared up within a few weeks of using it, and whenever I stop using it, it comes back. Its made a HUGE difference and my face feels so soothed and so much better than it ever did.

I'm sorry I'm being such a huge pain by giving you skincare advice (T__T) - I just can't recommend this enough.

  18. I agree with Alison. I use the much cheaper Olay copy of the Clairsonic with my cleanser and it has really helped my messy skin - my t-zone oil production could power cars for a year, my cheeks are more normal and I break out in all the fun spots. I think it helps a lot, especially after wearing a full face of makeup.

  22. Woah! I'm really digging the template/theme of this site. It's simple, yet effective.
A lot of times it's tough to get that "perfect balance" between superb usability and visual appearance. I must say you have done a awesome job with this. Also, the blog loads very fast for me on Safari. Excellent Blog!

  23. Hello, There's no doubt that your site might be having browser compatibility issues. When I take a look at your blog in Safari, it looks fine however, if opening in IE, it's got
some overlapping issues. I merely wanted to provide you with a quick heads up!
    Apart from that, wonderful blog!

  25. Hello just wanted to give you a quick heads up and
let you know a few of the pictures aren't loading correctly. I'm not sure why
but I think its a linking issue. I've tried it in two different browsers and both show the same results.
