Sneak Peek: Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Swatches

Hooray! The Chanel counter at Neiman Marcus Boston came through and I was able to get swatches of the new Chanel Rouge Allure Velvets. I took these after I got home so I probably smeared half of it on the inside of my coat. Picture more vibrancy to the colors below for accuracy.

Clockwise: 40, 41, 34, 39, 32, 37, 38, 36

Here's what the numbers correspond to:
32 - La Ravissante
34 - La Raffinée
36 - La Caline
37 - L'Exuberante
38 - La Fascinante
39 - La Somptueuse
40 - La Sensuelle
41 - L'Exquise

My fleeting impressions after wearing La Caline for an hour (do note that these are first thoughts based on brief experience and are subject to change):
  • Formula is smooth. Does not tug during application - a novelty when it comes to matte formulas.
  • It is not moisturizing, but I don't think it's necessarily drying. When I applied La Caline my bottom lip was chapped, and the lipstick picked up on the dryness and emphasized it. But my top lip was fine and the lipstick looks a-okay on it. This is a potentially high maintenance lipstick because you'll have to exfoliate beforehand.
  • Very pigmented.
  • Doesn't seem to be completely matte. There is the slightest sheen/glistening when you apply the lipstick. An hour in, that glistening has faded somewhat. The lipstick settles to a very very natural-looking finish (after all, our lips are naturally matte).

Quick update:
Rae from The RAEviewer posted a review of La Ravissante and it looks ravishing on her. Take a peek at her post to see how the Rouge Allure Velvets perform in action.

Released in conjunction with the new lipsticks are three new limited edition nail colors and one limited edition matte top coat. The nail colors are a red-fuchsia Pirate, fuchsia Rose Exubérant, and rose beige Rose Caché. I was unimpressed by Pirate till I placed the Mat Top Coat over it, where the color deepened into what we see in the promo ad. I purchased all four of these polishes and will review it in full soon.

The photos below are terrible, but I hope it gives you at least some inkling of how the polishes look.

L-R: Pirate (layered with Mat Top Coat), Rose Exubérant

Rose Caché

As mentioned yesterday, the Rouge Allure Velvet lipsticks ($32 each) and new nail polishes ($25 each)  are already available on the Chanel website. I purchased mine from Neiman Marcus Boston. It should arrive at all other Chanel counters soon, if not already. What do you think? Will you be picking any of these up?

  1. L'Exuberante looks beautiful, but I hardly use my Chanel lippies, I'm not really sure why...

  2. I tried these about a month ago but never quite got the hang of matte lipsticks. They're not dry but don't feel moisturizing. I will give them a second try once they hit the counters. As for the n/p, definitely Pirate and Rose Cache!

  5. @Rocaille me too! I have a bunch but I rarely touch them hmm.

@Kristie Yeah that pretty much sums it up.

    @Myrted :)

@Larie Did you know which ones you wanted to get? I'm looking at the colors thinking they're pretty but I feel like I have all of them in my stash, if you know what I mean. The matte-ness doesn't make it too special in my books. Anyway, I got a sample card of four colors. Will see if I change my mind in the coming weeks!

  8. Sorry, completely off topic but....wanted to ask what powder (if any) you use on top of your Future Skin. Your skin looks so beautiful in all of your posts....
I have been anxiously awaiting your review on the lmdb face kit (have almost ordered it many times, but think the powder and bronzer may be too dark- I am chanel beige 10; quite fair). Maybe you could do a "skin-post" someday! :)

  9. Dain- no reason to not buy a lipstick just because it's, um, chanel :) I still don't know if I am though. I have chronic dry lips...

Nawi- awesome. I do like the matte topcoat for variety, but it's true I don't use the ones I own as much. Still nice to have. It's a stellar formula

Katie- oh my, I feel like I haven't used a powder in months. The Future Skin finish is really pretty so I just forgo the powder. Um, I do get oily in like the fifth hour in because of that though... I'll just add that my current HG powder is the Guerlain mattifying pressed meteorites (the skin-colored one), in case you're interested.

I'm SO sorry I haven't posted the flawless face review! I've been staving it off because the pictures weren't ideal. I just took a bunch that may answer all your questions though. Crossing fingers for a post tonight!

And the skin post is definitely in the works! I'm planning a massive skincare routine breakdown :)

  10. None of the Velvet colors are grabbing me, online at least, but we'll see in person. However, I have been flipping over Rose Cache ever since I saw it on Front Row Beauty. It's pink, but looks like it could be the perfect neutral! Can't wait to give it a whirl. (Wearing Dior Camel mani and RBL Au Chocolat pedi right now.)

  12. I bought #37 L'Exuberante yesterday. It's an intense rosy pink color, almost fuschia but with more warmth- hard to describe. I love it. Applies easily, has an impressive finish, and very long-wearing.
