Chanel Joues Contraste Rouge Swatches, Photos, Reviews

I deliberated for a long time what my first feature should be, until I realized that fretting over it just means wasting valuable time I could utilize to, I don't know... actually start the blog?! So without further ado, my first product feature will be the most intriguing item of the recently unveiled Collection Byzance de Chanel. Joues Contraste Rouge ($43) is a true red I never thought I would so ardently embrace. I was never afraid of this blush, but I did think it would soon edge over to the Limited Edition Collection corner of my drawer, to be caressed on the rarest of occasions. At first use, my earlier preconceptions dissipated, and when it comes to makeup, I love to be proven wrong.

JOUES CONTRASTE ROUGE - POWDER BLUSH

Chanel Joues Contraste Rouge

L-R: Heavy and blended swatches

The most common worry I've heard about this product is the fear that it will produce "clown cheeks." It is indeed all too simple to achieve that effect. A regular blush brush and a sweep of that powder and before you know it...

Oops!

The key phrase to hold on to when using Rouge is less and less and less is more. Forgo your dense kabukis and whip out your best fan brushes, yachiyos, or blending brushes, and swirl it on your cheek like there's no tomorrow.

The texture of this blush lives up to the Chanel Joues Contraste reputation: soft, smooth, and oh so blendable. When I swatched it on my arm I saw tiny gold shimmers swimming in the red, but it wasn't visible when applied to my cheeks.

As Gaia of The Non Blonde points out, the red of Rouge mimics tones actually found in the human skin.  Thus, with proper placement and the lightest of hands, you'll be able to look like you just ran a few miles, or heard something amazing from the man of your dreams, or giggled yourself silly for the past half an hour. Who doesn't want to recreate health and happiness on their cheeks?

Joues Contraste Rouge is produced in extremely limited quantities and will likely sell out soon. Chanel regret is agonizing and one of the most expensive in the beauty market. Snag it now or forever hold your peace.

P.S. That blush is so flattering on you! I do want it, but I'd rather find a cheaper dupe, you know?

  8. @Anonymous: Thank you for your kind words! How are you enjoying your Rouge? I have to stop myself from wearing it everyday

@Anonymous: Thank you! That means a lot :) I know what you mean about cheaper dupes, but i think true reds come few and far between :(

@Pam: Thank you! I had fun with the clown cheeks. It didn't take much to go there. I wore Rouge Coco Plumetis, which I reviewed on the post above :)

  9. Red blushes are lovely! They are so few, that I do collect them when I come across one. I've always thought they are the most natural colour to wear, provided you know how to correctly apply it (I have pale skin and it works).

I picked this one up and just to let you know, it is available in the UK, at London Selfridges and one or two other counters.

I found a post that lists international availability:

Just to let everyone know, Selfridges in London do take telephone orders and ship internationally.

I was surprised to see your blog is so new! Seems like you've been writing for ages. Like the about description ^-~ what are beauty blogs for otherwise?

  12. For example, you can quickly see what the right timing.
It's okay to represent your product honestly in such a short time. Refrain mindlessly adding phone numbers in your the student loan people strategy. He also writes articles about his very niche to promote his sporting accessory products, he must think of a company's Twitter
